When You May Need a CTA

Your physician may recommend a CTA if you have:

  • Stroke-related symptoms

CT EXAMS WWO CONTRAST

Patients are advised to fast for 4 to 6 hours before the exam. It is important to inform the staff if you have diabetes or are allergic to iodine. If you are allergic to iodine, consult your physician to be pre-medicated before the exam.

  • No anti-inflammatories for 5 days.
  • No blood thinners for 5 days before exam.
  • No food 4–5 hours before exam.
  • Refrain from operating a vehicle. Make arrangements for alternative transportation.
  • If allergic to iodine, ask your referring doctor to give a 3 day prescription for prednisone and benadryl.

CT EXAMS

  • This exam takes up to 2 hours
  • No eating/drinking after midnight — no water or medication
  • No smoking/tobacco after midnight
  • No morphine at least 4 hours prior to exam
  • If ordered, must do ultrasound first
